Welcome to IFA Japanese Branch Website
Established in 1975, the Japanese branch of the International Fiscal Association (IFA) seeks to promote research on international and comparative aspects of tax law and public finance. It is an open and independent platform consisting of tax professionals in both private and public sectors. It aims to be inclusive in terms of ethnicity, creed, gender, or age. It assists the activities of IFA and holds seminars on current issues of interest on a regular basis.

Notice of the Interim Report Meeting by Branch Reporters for the 2027 IFA Stockholm Congress
We are pleased to announce that the interim reporting session on the research preparation status for the 2027 IFA Stockholm Congress by the branch reporters will be held as follows.
Date and Time: Friday, October 9, 2026, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Venue: Online meeting via Zoom

Obituary: Mr. Toshio Miyatake, Supreme Advisor
We regret to inform you, with deepest sympathy, that Mr. Toshio Miyatake, a member of the IFA and former Chair of the IFA Japan Branch, passed away on July 15. At the time of his passing, he served as Supreme Advisor and Steering Committee Member of the IFA Japan Branch, and was also an Honorary Member of the International Fiscal Association.
Mr. Miyatake, together with the late Mr. Hiroshi Kaneko, Honorary Professor of the University of Tokyo and former Chair of the Japan Branch, and others, founded the IFA Japan Branch in 1975. He also played a central role in the 61st IFA Annual Congress held in Kyoto in 2007. From December 2007 to December 2010, he served as Chair of the IFA Japan Branch. In recognition of these and many other contributions, he was elected an Honorary Member of the IFA in 2013.
We hereby express our heartfelt condolences.

The deadline for early-bird registration for the 78th IFA Annual Congress in Melbourne, to be held in Australia from Sunday, October 18 to Thursday, October 22, 2026, is fast approaching. The deadline is Wednesday, July 15 at 24:00 CEST.

- The IFA/APAC 2026 Tokyo Conference Has Successfully Concluded
The 9th Regional Conference of IFA/APAC (Asia-Pacific), held at Hotel New Otani on Monday, May 11 and Tuesday, May 12, 2026, was successfully concluded with favorable reception. The conference, referred to as the “2026 Tokyo Conference,” welcomed approximately 200 participants from Japan and abroad, including IFA President Ms. Natalia Quiñones of Colombia, IFA/APAC Chair Mr. Ichwan Sukardi of Indonesia, WIN (Women IFA Network) Chair Ms. Ana Claudia Akie Utumi of Brazil, and YIN (Young IFA Network) Chair Mr. Ignacio Gepp of Chile.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who provided support and cooperation, to all keynote speakers and panelists, and to all domestic and international members who participated in the conference.
